CHARLOTTE, NC – Gary Abernathy, President of Champion Motor Graders, is pleased to announce the appointment of Marvin (Woody) Ferrell as the new Vice President Sales & Marketing for Champion Motor Graders. Ferrell assumed his new position on July 25, 2008.
“Woody Ferrell is the kind of person with whom you make an immediate connection,” says Bryan Abernathy. “He immediately understood the value of the Champion Compact Motor Grader line and what it could mean for dealers and contractors alike. I knew deep down that the day the Abernathy family reacquired the product line from Volvo Construction Equipment in 2004, would be the same day we would try to convince Woody to become an integral part of our organization. I am happy to say that day has arrived. Woody’s experience and existing working relationship with the majority of our dealer network will enable him to really hit the ground running.”
Woody Ferrell, a proud long-time dirt equipment expert, was most recently the Vice President of Remarketing with Volvo Construction Equipment, where he successfully led various Sales & Marketing initiatives for several different Volvo Construction Equipment product lines in his eight years with that company.
“It’s absolutely wonderful,” says Ferrell. “Champion makes a phenomenal product – it’s very well built and respected in the marketplace and Bryan and Gary have a great reputation out in the field. A quality product combined with a 1st class organization made my decision to come to Champion an easy one.”
Other Management Changes Announced
In addition to Ferrell’s appointment, Gary Abernathy announced that Bryan Abernathy is taking on the position of Executive Vice President for Champion Motor Graders. According to Bryan, this move will allow him to work more closely with his father, as the company prepares for the challenges and opportunities of the future.
“I love this business and I love the industry we work in and we both felt that it was the right time for me to work closer with him and take advantage of his knowledge and expertise to run this business line as he would,” says Bryan Abernathy. “This move will allow Gary to focus on the bigger picture and new initiatives that will keep Champion Motor Graders the vibrant and growing organization we have become under his leadership.”
Transitional Action Plan
In conjunction with Bryan Abernathy, Woody Ferrell will be developing individual business plans based around the existing relationship between Champion and each dealer with a view to future growth expectations. Dealers will be brought up to speed on the new Champion Production Class Motor Graders, the exciting new product that was unveiled at ConExpo 2008.
Bryan Abernathy will continue to work very closely with all existing international dealer relationships, while at the same time giving Ferrell the opportunity to begin creating relationships with Champion’s international dealers, allowing Champion to present an integrated approach to the market place and ensuring that his transition be part of any existing and future opportunities.
“Woody’s appointment, along with our transitional action plan and other organizational changes we have in place, make these exciting times for Champion Motor Graders. We look forward to all of our dealers and customers being part of our growing and bright future,” says Bryan Abernathy.
