Charlotte, NC - The new Champion C110 C Production Class Grader features an efficient direct-drive Funk DF150 drivetrain, coupled with a turbocharged Cummins QSB6.7 Tier 3 engine, says Bryan Abernathy, Champion Motor Graders Executive Vice President. The Champion C110 C Motor Grader will be rolled out around North America during the company’s “The Main Event” Demo Tour which starts on February 20th at Scott Equipment Company in Memphis, TN.
“There’s a gap to be filled between what is known as ‘compact’ graders and the traditional full-size lines. We designed the new Champion Production Class line to meet customer needs for more power and versatility, while still retaining the maneuverability, versatility, and operating efficiency that are the hallmarks of Champion Motor Graders,” says Abernathy. “We feel confident that the Champion C110 C Grader is poised to become the versatile mid-sized grader package of choice for increased job applications from fine grading to high speed snow clearing.”
DF150 is a proven performer
According to Jeff McKee, Champion Vice President Engineering, the Funk DF150 Powershift Transmission is a proven performer that gives the new mid-sized grader the direct drive system it requires to match its engine power to do the job at hand.
“With the increased torque and horsepower (120 hp) from the Cummins QSB6.7 Tier 3 engine, as well as the increased weight to horsepower ratio and a travel speed of 27 mph (43.4 km/h) on the C110 C Series, a hydrostatic transmission like that found on Champion’s compact graders becomes less efficient,” says McKee. “The DF150 transmission features 8 forward gears and 4 reverse gears – a common configuration for operators – and is much more in keeping with larger machines. We examined incorporating a 6/3 transmission, however, the feedback from operators was that it did not provide enough control at lower speeds, enough efficiency at the higher speed nor the accuracy for the right working speed.”
Motor graders are required to complete a variety of operations with a large number of possible duty cycles. The DF150 transmission optimizes temperature and load compensation providing the operator with maximum efficiency and comfort, regardless of the job application. The DF150 is fully sequential with a single lever transmission controller which provides electronic shifting with last gear memory and is also equipped with an inching pedal. The DF150’s clutch is not required during shifting, while the flywheel mounted, multi-disc master clutch is oil-cooled for long life.
McKee says that the C110 C Grader’s Cummins Tier 3 engine and DF150 Powershift transmission are isolated from the frame with a vibration isolation mount that takes out a lot of the vibration and torque-spikes that operators would normally experience. This is further enhanced by the full perimeter rear frame that protects the complete drivetrain from any stresses caused by the various applications when attachments are engaged.
“From our initial introduction at ConExpo, we knew we that we had stirred up a lot of interest in our new C110 C Series Production Class Grader,” says Abernathy. “Today these graders are starting ‘The Main Event’ Demo Tour across North America, which is happening in cooperation with our dealers. The first event is happening at Scott Equipment’s Open House in Memphis on February 20th.”
Scott Equipment offers agriculture, construction, industrial, and forestry equipment, parts and service in Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Texas. In addition to its line of Champion Motor Graders, Scott Equipment also carries Volvo, Metso, and Link-Belt products.
According to Woody Ferrell, Champion Vice President Sales & Marketing, contractors and municipalities should be contacting their local dealers to find out when “The Main Event” Demo Tour is stopping in their neighborhood.
